IThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been heavily criticised of late, due to its funding and building of the City Creek Mall in Salt Lake City, Utah. The criticism has even come from many practicing Latter-day Saints. I once held a very negative view of the Church’s funding of the City Creek Mall, especially as malls represent everything that Satan represents (greed, gluttony, carnal desires, money etc etc). But, then I did some actual research for myself, and found out that the Church has indeed received revelation since the 1800’s, in which the Lord guided the Church into building businesses, which help finance the Church, and its welfare funds. I will however not budge on my beliefs that malls are not the best of businesses in a spiritual sense, but I don’t know all the facts and just how much the Brethren prayed over the construction of the mall.
I’m not an expert on the subject of the Church’s businesses, and how they’re ran, but Mormon Historian Dr. Micheal Quinn certainly is, and I encourage all Latter-dat Saints, and especially non-LDS who have questions regarding the City Creek Mall to watch this fantastic interview, in which Dr. Quinn explains the business ventures of the Church in detail.
